Highlighting and Contouring is one of the biggest, most talked about makeup technique in the beauty industry, currently! In this blog post, I will provide you with a basic concept of understanding and achieving the perfect sculpted face, with a list of product recommendations. But to really learn how to master this highly acclaimed makeup technique, I encourage you to book a private makeup lesson or master class with me to perfect your artistry!
It is extremely important to understand the basic concept of highlighting and contouring your face. Contouring is all about creating dimension on the face (i.e. Cheek bones, jaw line, etc)—to make darker. And highlighting is all about bringing emphasis on the areas of the face that you want to make more prominent (i.e. Eyebrow highlight, high plaines of cheek of cheek bones, etc)—to make lighter.
There is no standard way to highlighting and contouring the face. But there are several rules of thumb that I suggest to achieve the perfect sculpted face. LESS IS MORE! Try to achieve a natural balanced sculpted face with minimal products. DO NOT attempt to change your entire face shape with creams and powders. Focus on the areas that need more shading and the areas that you want to bring attention to; and remember to BLEND!!!! Blending is the key to mastering this technique in the makeup application process. This is NOT the only step of makeup, it is a major step that can be achieved with numerous products; blush, creams, foundations, concealers, powders, etc. I have listed my top highlight and contour products that I use on myself and clients worldwide.
