Hi guys! I’m back today with another installment of “Lit Life Wedding Chat”, featuring MUA Eyes By Erica. Check out our interview below and learn what it’s like to work with a professional makeup artist.
Why did you choose a career in the makeup industry?
I didn’t choose makeup artistry as a career, it chose me. I got my bachelors in Apparel/Textile marketing with a minor in Business Administration. I thought I was going to have a career in the Fashion industry as a buyer or something along those lines. Not makeup! Haha! God ordained my path for this occupation. And I’m so happy that he did! Makeup is my ministry. It allows me to have authentic conversations with my clients about my faith and their lives.
Describe your makeup services you provide to wedding clients?
I provide bridal makeup services to wedding clients for the bride, the bridal party and guests; which include makeup and lash applications, tattoo cover up and more.
What sets Eyes By Erica apart from other wedding makeup artist?
What sets me apart from other makeup artists is my adaptability to all races, sexes and ages. I learned that from working in various retail environments and over 13 years in the beauty industry.
How would you describe your makeup style?
My makeup style is polished, timeless beauty that enhances my clients natural aesthetic.
When you’re not working with brides, what do you do for fun?
I love spending time with my family and friends. International solo traveling. Attending live music festivals and concerts. Going to the museum. Basically anything related to the arts. And mostly importantly spending uninterrupted quality time with God.
Describe your typical client experience?
My makeup applications typically last approximately 30-45 mins. During that time, I start with a makeup investigation to learn my clients needs. Then I execute a customized makeup application for that client. Lastly, ensuring their full happiness and all needs are met.
What are some of your favorite make-up brands to use for wedding make-up?
I love MAC Cosmetics, Makeup Forever, Lancome, Bobbi Brown, Estée Lauder, Anastasia Bevelry Hills, Inglot, Morphe, NYX cosmetics, BH cosmetics, and Sigma for my wedding makeup applications.
Do you offer a bridal trial session? If so, what can the bride expect from this experience and how should they prepare?
I offer bridal trials to all my wedding clients because it’s sets the tone for the wedding day. It creates a more relaxed environment when I have interacted with the bride before their BIG day! We collectively decide her desired look for the wedding. And we discuss color, technique and placement. We also go over the wedding inspiration and how makeup can enhance that vision.
How do you choose make-up colors for each bride?
Each bride is different and have a variety of expectations for their makeup on their special day. It is my responsibility to fully investigate all of my bride’s wedding makeup needs to achieve the ultimate wedding look. Color is determined by skin tone, desired final look and knowledge of product functionality.
What advice would you give a bride searching for a make-up artist?
Book a bridal trial!!! Meet your desired makeup artist before your wedding! Your wedding day should not be the first time that you both meet! It is so important to learn each other personalities before that day. You have to ensure that you both vibe and can collectively reach the desired makeup look for your wedding.
What do you enjoy most about doing wedding make-up?
I love wedding makeup! Weddings are a celebration of two people’s love! There is nothing greater than love! And it’s an honor for me to be apart of a love union. It is the epitome of the love expression.
Since I’m a lipstick fanatic myself, I have to ask, what’s your favorite lipstick at the moment?
My favorite lipstick is currently “Bawse Lady” by The Lip Bar. It is vegan liquid matte blue based Red lipstick. It’s so pretty and super comfy on the lips.
